National Reading Month: Fueling the Love for Learning at ITCA

Stories & Spotlights
Student reading

March is here, and so is National Reading Month! This month offers a special opportunity to reflect on the incredible power of reading and how it shapes students’ lives both in and out of the classroom. At ITCA, we know that reading is more than just an academic skill, it’s a doorway to new worlds, ideas, and opportunities.

The Importance of Reading

Reading serves as the cornerstone for academic achievement and personal development. From building critical thinking skills to expanding vocabulary and comprehension, reading enriches every aspect of a student’s learning journey.

Mrs. Lee, ITCA’s History and English teacher, said it best, “Reading has presented me with a shielded place to escape, explore, and discover. The life teachings learned from an array of characters have assisted in shaping the person I am today. I have laughed with them, wept with them, and shouted my frustrations at them.”

At ITCA, we are dedicated to providing students with engaging, personalized reading experiences that inspire curiosity and cultivate a love of learning. Mrs. Lee stated, “numerous authors’ words have pierced my soul. Their words feel as if they were composed specifically for me to hear at that moment. Words that, after many years, still fill me with emotion. One such is the following words of George Elliot, in her novel Middlemarch: “But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.”

How You Can Celebrate National Reading Month

  • Discover New Books: Encourage students to explore different genres, authors, and series. Diversifying reading materials can help students find books that truly spark their interest.
  • Read Together: Whether it’s at home with family or in the virtual classroom with peers, reading together strengthens bonds and fosters shared learning experiences. Make reading a group activity this month!
  • Create a Reading Routine: Setting aside a specific time each day for reading can help students develop lasting habits. Whether it’s reading in the morning or before bed, a routine can make reading a part of everyday life.

At ITCA, we believe in the power of reading to transform lives. It empowers students to not only succeed academically but also to become lifelong learners, equipped to navigate a world full of knowledge and opportunity.

Let’s Continue to Inspire Each Other
