Audrey’s Story: Finding the Perfect Fit at ITCA

Stories & Spotlights
Audrey Wilson

Audrey, a determined 18-year-old from northern Idaho, found herself at a crossroads last year when the graphic design program at her private preparatory school was suddenly canceled.

Passionate about design and eager to continue honing her skills, she and her family searched far and wide for an alternative. Their journey led them to Idaho Technical Career Academy (ITCA), a choice that not only met but exceeded their expectations.

A Perfect Match in ITCA

After extensive research, Audrey’s family discovered ITCA and got in touch with a counselor who guided them through the process and introduced them to ITCA’s graphic design program.

“She’s going to graduate with three different certifications that are professional-level, resume-building certifications that she can go into any college or any job and they are equivalent to any other full-time professional who would go and take those classes,” Audrey’s mother, Heather, said. “I just couldn’t find anybody else who offered that.”

Beyond its robust curriculum, ITCA also allows Audrey to earn college credit for web coding. This opportunity accelerates her education and ensures that she gains valuable experience before even stepping into the workforce.

“I like ITCA’s program so much more because I get to, step by step, learn what every single button in Illustrator does, when before, in my old classes, I would just be learning on my own,” Audrey said. “With ITCA, it’s teaching me a bunch of whole new skills. It’s not all on me but I’m able to do it on my own timeline.”

A Unique Learning Experience

Audrey’s story is even more remarkable because she navigates the world differently than most — she is completely deaf and uses a cochlear implant. While only one of her teachers is aware of her hearing difference, ITCA’s virtual classroom environment has been a game-changer for her learning experience.

Her mother praises ITCA’s technology-driven approach, explaining that it eliminates common classroom distractions like background noise, making it easier for Audrey to focus.

“This type of tech is fantastic for a student who hears differently,” Heather said, emphasizing how ITCA’s digital learning model enhances accessibility for students with unique needs.

Why ITCA Was the Right Choice

Audrey’s mother describes ITCA as “far superior” to the other schools they explored. ITCA’s flexible, technology-driven format has given Audrey the tools to succeed academically while also providing her with a supportive environment tailored to her needs.

“I love this ITCA program,” Heather said. “I’m seeing Audrey reach deep inside to be independent, enjoy her projects and use her time efficiently. I feel like there’s a lot less waste throughout the day. She spends more of the day doing what she really enjoys, and that I really appreciate in high school. The certifications put her miles ahead of other students and other employees.”

With the ability to earn professional certifications, dual credit and real-world experience, Audrey is positioning herself miles ahead of her peers and unlocking her potential.
