Building a Bright Future: How ITCA Supported Hannah Z.’s Journey to College Success

Stories & Spotlights

Hannah Z. isn’t just another high school graduate; she’s now on a three-year path to graduate from Carroll College with a double major, thanks to her determination and Idaho Technical Career Academy (ITCA). Hannah, a recent ITCA graduate, balanced her academic pursuits with her passion for softball and a part-time job. She credits ITCA’s customizable learning structure and supportive environment for providing a springboard to professional success.

A Strong Academic Foundation with ITCA

Since her junior year at ITCA, Hannah took advantage of the program’s adaptability to enroll in college courses at North Idaho College, bringing her close to completing an associate degree even before graduating high school. By May 2024, Hannah left ITCA with nearly 55 college credits — enough to fast-track her studies at Carroll College, where she earned a scholarship covering most of her tuition and is now double majoring in data science and computer science. Due to the school’s modifiable class schedule, Hannah was also able to work while going to ITCA, which allowed her to pay her college tuition out of pocket for her first semester.

Why Hannah Chose Idaho Technical Career Academy

Choosing ITCA was a strategic decision for Hannah and her family. When COVID-19 moved her brick-and-mortar school online, she researched virtual schools and found ITCA’s well-established program. Unlike many schools that transitioned abruptly to online learning, ITCA had years of experience in virtual education, which gave her family confidence in its quality. The school’s adaptability allowed her to accelerate her studies, access dual credit courses, work part-time and manage her intensive athletic commitments while still performing at the top academically.

Developing Leadership Skills with BPA

Beyond academics, Hannah distinguished herself as a leader in Business Professionals of America (BPA), a nationwide student organization. She competed in BPA state competitions each year — reaching nationals four times — and served as chapter president for three years. Her dedication earned her the BPA Torch Award and recognition in several business-related events, demonstrating her leadership and commitment to excellence.

Gaining Career-Ready Skills with CTE Programs

ITCA’s comprehensive support also extended into career and technical education (CTE), where Hannah earned Adobe Professional certifications in digital media and graphic design. These certifications, coupled with her BPA achievements, have prepared her well for a future in data and computer science, supported by strong communication, leadership and technical skills.
